Welcome to Mintedleaf Story Studio.
I write about living an author life, which is not just writing practice, but also creating a sustainable lifestyle around all the offshoots of creativity. Putting words on the page is just my starting point.
And, if you’re at all like me, you’ve been doing it since you were eight.
I feel a bit strange spelling this out because on the surface, it looks like I’m already there. I DO make a living writing. I’ve been a tech writer for almost twenty years. I’ve created user documentation of all shapes and sizes for complex telecom products, and I’ve built a successful online marketing business. I feel no hestitation in calling myself a professional writer.
But I’ve never called myself an author.
Authors decide what to make for themselves. Tech writers and marketers get told what to make.
So, what do I want? The answer is to not just write stories. I want to experiment with: traditional publishing, self publishing, online courses, childrens books & illustration, podcasts, videos, card making, web design, t-shirts, lettering, and even copy writing.
This journal is about all that stuff—how to create an author life for yourself that’s more than just words on the page.
If you want to stick with me (and I hope you do), I promise to reveal every messy step of the way.
I’d love for you to subscribe and follow along.
BTW: I’m live outside Vancouver, Canada. I’ve got two college-age kids and I’m still paying my mortgage. My dog is awesome. I love writers conferences. I’m constantly working at being more creative, financially independent, and happy.
